UNISync 5G-M™
Synchronization Supply Unit Main Shelf


The US5G-M has all the carrier class performance specifications
of the US5G-A, but both input and output capacities are
downsized in order to specifically address the network sync
requirements of Tier 2 and Tier 3 network operators.

The US5G-M offers users features required for Tier 1 carrier network synchronization. By re-configuring the US5G shelf/chassis design in order to reduce both material and manufacturing process costs were reduced. And additional cost reductions were achieved with modifications to the COM module and to the IOP modules. The result is a remarkably versatile Central Office BITS clock with all the feature/function benefits of a US5G-A, but at a price point many thousands of dollars less.





The US5G-M incorporates features that are NOT available on the US5G-A. The most prominent feature differential is the integrated GPS module which enables the PRS reference to be directly routed through the backplane to the IOP modules. The US5G-M, in fact, provides the user with the option of installing dual redundant GPS receiver modules onto plug-in DB-25 connectors on the back panel. The clock can be configured for either single or dual GPS operation.

The US5G-M also features plug on Wire Wrap connector fixtures which allow output connections to be made directly on the back panel eliminating co-located WW output connector panels and allowing a more efficient use of limited rack space.
If the new clock installation is replacing a dated legacy clock such as a DCD 400/500 shelf or a TSG-3800, the fixture can be omitted and output adaptor cables can be routed directly to the legacy WW panels enabling an easy transition without the need to re-install the cabling infrastructure to the network elements.
The US5G-M Main Shelf provides two slot pairs for frequency outputs. These paired slots may be equipped with either a single unprotected output module or a pair of protected modules. The output frequency output modules are offered in either 20 Port or 40 Port versions. These modules are identical to those used on the US5G-A. The Frequency output modules are offered in either T1/CC frequency outputs or E1 outputs. The T1/CC modules may be software configured to the port level for either T1 or Composite Clock. The E1 modules may be software configured for either 2.048 Mbs or 2.048 MHz.
The Main Shelf Chassis also provides a slot pair which is hard wired to accommodate time server modules. The slots can accommodate either one single server module or a pair of server modules operating in a redundant protected mode. Either NTP time server blades or IEEE-1588 PTP Grand Master server blades can be selected. The time server blades provide a 1 Gbps Optical interface on the front panel or a 10/100 Mbps electrical interface on the back panel.
Total Software Management means that any module that is equipped in the slots is entirely managed by system software via the LAN interface with the COM module. Unlike some systems this includes not only routine configuration and alarm management functions, but also ALL software download processes needed to install software revisions.
Since the US5G-M Main Shelf output capacity is limited to 80 frequency outputs and a single time server (redundant or not), the system has been designed to allow a standard US5G expansion shelf to be added. The Expansion shelf adds 8 additional slot pairs which can be used with ANY combination of frequency or time server modules. This should cover any issues a network operator meets with unanticipated growth in a particular network serving area.

The US5G-M was conceived to meet ALL contingencies that a Tier 2 or Tier 3 telco might encounter to provide adequate timing for all their evolving network synchronization needs.
